OURHistory

K & N Motorcycle and ATV Center is a family owned business, dedicated not only to the business but to the hobby and sport of motorcycling and all terrain vehicles. Norm McDonald established his Yamaha dealership in 1957 in California and moved to our current location in 1971. To this day, we are still under the same ownership with Norm and his wife Lucy still actively involved with the business. The McDonald family is a motorcycling family. From the very beginning racing has been a large part of what K & N does and that tradition is continuing with Tyler McDonald, Norm's grandson! K&N Air and Oil Filters History of why we use the name K & N Motorcycles and ATV Center: The origin of the K & N Filtercharger concept is the stuff of legends. Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald (the K and N of K&N) were a pair of avid motorcycle racers back in the mid-50's. One story centers on a sock wrapped around a failing air filter during a motocross race. A more colorful version, alluded to on the company website (but strongly denied), mentions a blood-soaked gauze bandages borrowed from a racer left for dead somewhere near Las Vegas. From those gritty beginnings (in every sense of the expression), the company built on the idea of improving motorcycle air filtration. Today nearly five decades later, the company has a sprawling factory in Riverside, California with the latest manufacturing equipment and dyno-testing technology at it's disposal. (The above story was from an article in the July 2003 Off-Road Adventures magazine) Norm is no longer associated with K & N Engineering, we are still a retailer of their fine products however. But that is the history behind our name!
